RippleNami: An Imagination Run Wild With The Mission To Connect 5 Billion Unconnected People

RippleNami is a B2B technology company working in developing nations to solve critical problems. To find out more about their unique platform we shared a fascinating tell all with Jaye Connolly-LaBelle, Chairman and CEO of RippleNami, Inc.

Jaye_Connolly-LaBelle

Q: Will you provide our readers with a brief introduction to RippleNami?

A: Imagine a world where you have all of the data that is important to you at your fingertips… a world where vast amounts of data can be visualized so it is easily understandable and actionable… and a world where everyone who has a phone will have equal access to the benefits that this technology will bring. RippleNami’s imagination ran wild with the mission to connect 5 billion unconnected people and execute on their global vision of inclusion.

RippleNami recognizes that people empowered with real-time and easily accessible information around the world can connect and foster unimaginable change. RippleNami is redefining blockchain and mapping with the first visualization platform that consolidates big data while providing information that matters most to users. Q: You’ve recently announced a contract with Sierra Leone to launch this nation as Africa’s first Smart Country; won’t you tell us more?

A: In September, at the United Nations General Assembly, President Bai Koroma’s delegation made an announcement to partner with RippleNami to transform Sierra Leone into Africa’s first “Smart Country.” The program accelerates progress toward achieving President Koroma’s vision for Sierra Leone to become a green, inclusive, middle-income country. What’s at stake is empowering Sierra Leone to obtain economic independence and aggressively compete in global markets while elevating the prosperity of its people.

For the first time in this nation’s proud history, Sierra Leone, in partnership with RippleNami, will deploy the blockchain-data visualization system solution that enables Sierra Leone to generate, own, collect, analyze and transact data on a nationwide scale – making Sierra Leone Africa’s first “Smart Country. You can only imagine the excitement around leading this bold vision and we stand ready to replicate this success story for those countries eager to also thrive within these new possibilities.

Q: What would you say is the biggest challenge in your job?

A: Our biggest challenge is our biggest opportunity and Ripplenami was born purely out of frustration by how each year BILLIONS of humanitarian aid in developing nations NEVER reached those in need.

As your readers know better than most, for every problem there exists an opportunity. Today, 3 billion of our global citizens don’t have any documents to verify their identity. Lack of identification prohibits people’s ability to use banks and inhibits access to basic rights like employment, education, healthcare, voting and travel. Without a reliable data infrastructure, these people are unable to capture the meaningful events in their lives: property ownership, health records, education certificates, and business licenses. The biggest challenge is the race against the clock to proliferate this technology to those in dire need of connectivity.

RippleNami_Globe_Map

Q: Who are the primary clients of RippleNami?

A: The beneficiaries and users of our proprietary technology platform are as wide and diverse as the applications we offer to our end users. In Africa millions of people live in extreme poverty and don’t have a digital identity. Most of these people are denied from basic opportunities that are common in the West such as a bank account, the ability to sell their products to broader markets or being able to buy items that are vital for their small businesses. Still, millions of transactions take place in the streets and villages between small businesses and individuals, but only a very small fraction is visible to the governments. At the same time, most people own smart phones with all the capabilities and access functions found in the phones that operate in the West.

Our client profile includes developing countries, corporations with a global footprint and non-governmental organizations which provide the benefits listed below:

• Government agencies seeking information needed to efficiently allocate resources and deliver critical services.
• Livestock owners seeking digital economic identities to quantify their property and access real time information about the market value, making it easier and less costly to secure a loan.
• Farmers seeking instant access to real-time information about which markets will deliver the best price for their crops. They will access visibility with other farmers in the geographic region to consider forming co-ops to share resources and reduce costs.
• Small businesses seeking access to new markets, more efficiently manage supply chains, and utilize smart contracts for secure transactions.
• The technology can also improve humanitarian assistance by eliminating the fraud and mismanagement that sometimes prevents a significant amount of money and goods from getting to those most in need.

Q: What are your plans for the next 4-6 months?

A: In today’s world, when it is it often hard to trust each other, the RippleNami solution becomes a trusted platform on which to collaborate, access economic opportunities, deliver services and conduct business. Our laser focus is to continue to rapidly deploy the technology throughout the African continent one country at a time and lifting an entire population to levels unseen in modern history.

The Northern Echo: New app could ease forces' veterans access to health and social care

An app designed to help three million ex-servicemen and women is being developed by a former Royal Navy lieutenant commander from North Yorkshire.

Dr Matt Kiernan said the app aims to make information about health and social care services available to veterans in an easy to understand form.

It is being backed by Richmond MP Rishi Sunak who is seeking a meeting with Defence Minister Mark Lancaster to gain Government support for the project.

Dr Kiernan, of Hudswell, near Richmond, retired from the Royal Navy early on health grounds and is now a senior lecturer at the Northern Hub for Military Veterans and Families’ Research at Northumbria University in Newcastle.

Called the National Veteran Information Services Network – N-VISionN for short – the app would be free to ex-servicemen and women.

Dr Kiernan said: “The idea behind the app is to bring all the services available together in one place, to provide one simple to use point of contact. There is a great deal of help available, for example to deal with alcohol and substance misuse, but it is not always easy to access it.”

The app has been developed with the help of a company based in San Diego, California – rippleNami – which specialises in presenting information in a highly visual way using maps.

Entrepreneur: Africa – A New Business Frontier

While it’s common knowledge the challenges — real and perceived — of conducting business in Africa include political instability, loose regulations and — in some areas — disease and conflict, what’s often overlooked by entrepreneurs and enterprises alike is the tremendous untapped potential for companies willing to venture into the commercial landscape of this economically emergent continent.

Consider this: Sub-Saharan Africa’s GDP is expected to reach 4.8 percent in 2017, as compared with predictions of only 2.3 percent growth for China between 2016 and 2018. Thecontinent’s economy is expected to grow 5 percent in 2016 and, as of 2014, U.S. exports to Sub-Saharan Africa tripled to $25 billion.

Certainly, these stats, coupled with social and infrastructure development, suggest that launching or expanding a business in Africa merits consideration, at a minimum. Google has been investing in Africa for more than eight years, most recently with a $40 million investment in the Lake Turkana Wind Power Project in Kenya. Africa’s burgeoning tech hubs in Sub-Saharan Africa — often called Silicon Savannahs — are also attracting global tech companies and CrunchBase is projecting at least $1 billion in VC funding of local startups between 2012 and 2018.

However for those looking to do business in Africa for the first time, it can be a very daunting undertaking. Executives, contractors and other professionals charged with leading initiatives on the ground need to be aware of various cultural customs and challenges.

Here are seven tips to successfully navigate starting or expanding a business in Africa:

  1. Business is always personal. A key cultural difference in Africa compared to the U.S. is that there is no separation between professional and personal life. Before locals engage in any business activity, they must like and trust you on a personal level. Invest extra time in getting to know people you’re hoping to do business with and genuinely take an interest in their families, hobbies, cultures (including tribal interests) and aspirations.

  1. Stand firm on corruption. Despite economic advances, corruption still has a widespread presence in many regions in Africa. According to a recent reportby Transparency International, corruption in Africa is actually on the rise, with nearly 75 million people in the Sub-Saharan region estimated to have paid a bribe in the past year. Be clear from the beginning that your company will not engage in corruption and adopt a policy of transparency in terms of your company’s intentions with all concerned stakeholders.

  1. You can’t compete against free. Africa has been receiving supplies and services from nonprofits and foreign aid agencies for decades. As a result, locals are accustomed to receiving certain goods for free. Therefore, your product or service must be differentiated enough to warrant the price. Partnering with a public agency or NGO so that the “buyer” is someone other than the end user is a strategy some companies have taken to overcome this hurdle.

  1. Know your surroundings. Africa has a reputation of being a wild, largely uncharted frontier, and in some ways this is still an accurate description. Many buildings, land plots and other resources are not mapped. However, it’s critical to have an accurateand thorough understanding of regions in which you’re hoping to conduct business. RippleNami is a custom mapping platform that enables companies tointegrate data from countless sources in order to visualize the information that is most
